Critical Introspection On The Relation Between Instrumental Rationality And Value Rationality

It can be concluded that the whole history of human beings'development is a contimum of practice since existence and development have been most greatly concerned about since humankind came into being. Human beings are actually cultural.Various cultural ideas play an important role in their practice. Different people from different parts of the world are different in their employment of cultural ideas. In the west,cultural ideas are famous for Instrumental rationality,resulted from integration of natural science and rationality. In China,Humanism or Value rationality have been dorminating people's living. Although being quite different,there is one fact shared by them both that is they have experienced a rather isolated and unhealthy development,which leads to the living dilemma the Westerners and Chinese confront and becomes obstacles in the process of social modernization.Based on analyzing the living dilemma,focusing on the integration of people′s real and ultimate care,the dissertation tries to explore better cultural idea in order to guide practice, overcome embarrassing living problems and achieve a more healthy development.The thesis is composed of the following six chapters:Chapter One interprets the concept of perfect living state of human beings,which refers to the state of harmony between man and nature,man and society and man and itself,describes current living dilemma due to distortion of the perfect state,and point out the root of the issue:partiality for Instrumental rationality and lock of Value rationality.Chapter Two further analyzes the biased opinion of rationality and points out that it is one-sidedness of choice among Instrumental rationality or Value rationality that results in the biased cultural idea.Chapter Three illustrates basis notion of the two types of rationality,and their main characteristics and important functions, and further evaluate them.
