Study On The Master Student-faculty Ratio In Universities

Under the new historical condition, with the expedition of the massification massification of our country, our higher education has already entered the phase of massification. In 2005, the gross enrollment of our higher education reached 21%, but is also leads to some problems, the high student-faculty ratio, especially the student-faculty ratio of graduate students is one of them, thus, it has been the important factor to work out a reasonable range on the student-faculty ratio of master through deep research and study, and referring to the conclusions at home and abroad.This paper focuses on the special rules of the education of master, combines the construction of higher school faculty and the rules of the distribution of higher school faculty, to analyze the problem of high ratio of the student-faculty ratio, tries to find some suggestions and countermeasures to solve the problem.This paper concludes:(1) To adopt the concept of student-faculty ratio, suppose some relative theory, assign a scientific formula, which adapts for this paper to work out the ratio. (2) Through the transverse international compare, exam the determinate factors that affect the student-faculty ratio fully; and try to find out some foreign learners'studies, which contain some similar ratios, and use them for reference. (3) Through the portrait study of our country's education on masters, considering the economic and some other influence, elicit the rules about the development of the master's student-faculty ratio, at the same time, sort the high schools and compare them then find out the head factor that affect the student-faculty ratio. (4) Basing on a key University, set out questionnaires, collect the data on the workload of faculty, visit and chat with some masters,teachers and some administers, and finally work out the ratio on the different disciplines: Liberal art, Economic manage, Science, Engineering course and Skill. (5) Combine the above-mentioned study, get appropriate ratios as reference for the frame of the student-faculty ratio of the education of masters.The major conlusions conclude:(1)The ratio at present on the five disciplines----Liberal art, Economic manage, Science, Engineering course and Skill are 26.40,22.68,24.55,26.53,and11.68, the average ratio is 23.92; (2)Most of theteachers and students are not satisfied with the ratios at present;(3)The ideal ratio of the teachers and the students is about on 6 to 7;(4)The appropriate ratios on the five disciplines are 7.86,7.14,8.91:8.53,4.85, and the average ratio is 7.77.
