The Internet has created an extensive battery of information and an interactive learning environment which help much to classroom instructions. The New English Curriculum Criterion requires that teachers should fully utilize information technology and Internet while developing the course resources of English. As one of the four basic languages skills and an important communication ability, writing is drawing more and more attention from English teachers. In that circumstance, the Internet-based English composition teaching has become a hot topic for the teachers involved. This thesis is an effort to study various aspects of the composition course in senior high schools. It analyzes the society's high demands on students' writing ability and the status quo of senior middle school students' writing skills so as to point out the necessity of making a study of English composition teaching in high schools. Through a detailed analysis of conventional way of conducting English composition course and experiments, the author puts forward her objective views concerning the advantages and limitations of the Internet-based English composition teaching. The thesis also gives suggestions concerning the appropriate roles of English teachers in such a composition course and needs for further study.
