The new curriculum reform has been going on for several years, and the task-based language teaching approach has been comprehensively introduced and advocated to and popularized among English teachers in China. This study was conducted from March through May of the year 2006 to explore how EFL teachers in Fujian perceive or understand the approach. The data for this study were collected through questionnaires from a total of 71 teachers at 50 different junior middle schools and senior middle schools in Fujian and were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The overall findings of the survey show that the majority of respondents had a higher level of understanding of the Task-based language teaching (hereafter TBLT) concepts, regardless of what level of English they were teaching. But they also think that there still exist some difficulties in implementing the TBLT with regard to its classroom practice. Based on the analysis of the findings, some suggestions are proposed in this paper to help teachers and teacher trainers to construct and implement the TBLT more effectively.
