The previous study has proved that informal employment would become the mainstream in the future. Informal employment is called a huge "sponge" or a "reservoir" which can absorb numerous labors. It has also become a feasible way to ease the pressure of employment in developing countries because of its exuberant vitality. Many experts have pointed out that in the future in China, informal employment would be an important and only way to solve the problem of employment. Despite its great contribution to the settlement of this problem, we must see that it consists of high-ranking and low-ranking informal employment.In China, low-ranking informal employment is the mainstream at present, and in the future, which is determined by the quality of the labor. The labor that needs to be employed include the newly increased labor in cities, laid-off workers, the unemployed and the redundant workers in the countryside. Except the newly increased workers, the left are unable to engage in high-ranking informal employment or formal employment, for most of them are weak or unskilled.Traditional formal employment can not absorb more labor, and the newly increased job mainly needs mental labor. So that most of the unemployed have to engage in low-ranking informal employment to make a living. The story of lowing-ranking employment is especially important and meaningful in China.The thesis dwells on the following aspects:In chapter one, the thesis expatiates the significance of low-ranking informal employment in today's China; to introduce the research methods, sociology theories and target of research; to define informal employment, formal employment, informal department.In chapter two, the thesis dwells on the development of informal employment and the study of it. (1) the development of informal employment and the theoretical studies in abroad; (2) the development of informal employment and the existing studies in China.Chapter three introduces the lives of tricyclists in yizheng. (1) the sources of these tricyclist and the working scene s; (2) to be a tricyclist is the necessity of survival; (3) tricyclists' limited consumption level;(4) the absence of their collective consciousness; (5) tricyclists' expectations on the next generation.Chapter four introduces the management and policy support to the low-ranking informal employers. (1) the management of these low-ranking informal employers; (2) the supportive strategies.Several issues still have to be discussed further in summing-up. The development opportunities of these labor, the utility of their leisure time and the comparison of low-ranking informal employers' habitation in big cities and small cities.
