This thesis tries to analysis the current situation of the teaching of English writing in Secondary Vocational School and put forward some effective teaching methods. In this thesis, the status quo is given in the first place, indicating that the students' writing ability is fairly weak and it is necessary to find out some solutions to change it. There are four researches in this thesis. The first one is to reveal particular features and mistakes appearing in students' compositions from the point of view of discourse. The second one consists of two surveys with the purpose of making clear main reasons for the current problems in 2 aspects: the main causes of the mistakes appearing in students' compositions and the results of feedback. The third one is the interviews with English teachers in Secondary Vocational School. The purpose is to find out the main teaching methods used in English writing, the main ways of feedback and the difficulties that the teachers face. The fourth one is an investigation that lasted for one term to test the effect of discourse analysis applied in English writing on the improvement of students' writing ability. The results show that the teachers pay little attention to discourse analysis and the differences between Chinese and English thought patterns. The students' compositions are lack of cohesion and coherence and the structure is loose. On the other hand, the efficiency of feedback is lost for the ways of feedback are unacceptable or the information proposed is not adequate. The subsequent section is about teaching methodology. The author puts forward three teaching methods of discourse analysis in English writing. The first one is to combine reading with writing. The second one is to compare the textual patterns of Chinese and English and to train students with English thought patterns. The third one is to ensure the efficiency of feedback. The term "discourse analysis" has come to be used with a wide range of meanings, which cover a wide range of activities. In this thesis, the author deals only with the problems that appear in the teaching of English writing in Secondary Vocational School with the purpose of helping students improve their English writing ability. Finally, the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research are presented.
