Discourse analysis is the prerequisites to get discourse knowledge, which is the base for writing. Therefore, the cultivation of students’ discourse ability is rather important for English writing teaching. Based on the discourse theory and the research achievement in the field, the paper tries to explore the effect that discourse analysis has on English writing and to get an effective teaching mode to improve students’ writing level.Firstly, based on the current research achievements on this topic, after analyzing the current teaching situation and the requirements of the New English Course Syllabus, the paper puts forward the viewpoint that discourse analysis should be applied to English writing teaching.Then after introducing some relevant discourse analysis theories, the paper points out that in this study, macro and micro-analysis is the method adopted to do discourse analysis.Thirdly, after analyzing the relationship between discourse analysis and English writing teaching, the author puts forwards an integrated mode of writing teaching—“Reading, Training, and Writing”. In the reading part, students are guided to do discourse analysis to the reading passage. Two training strategies are put forward based on the theory of discourse analysis: imitating writing and summary writing. The purpose of both “reading” and “training” is to guide students to get familiar with the discourse characteristics and master some discourse knowledge,which are the prerequisites for them to perform English writing. “Writing” consists of “pre-writing, writing and post-writing. In pre-writing stage, students decide on the genre of the writing passage; in writing period, students develop paragraphs with cohesive and coherent sentences; in post-writing stage, students modify the drafts at both discourse level and sentence level as well.To prove the effectiveness, the author carried out an experiment for a term with a class of Senior High School Affiliated to Guizhou University. The experiment result demonstrates the application of discourse analysis to English writing teaching has raised students discourse sense and significantly improved the students’ writing ability.In addition, the paper also draws the following conclusions that during English writing teaching in senior high school, teachers should:1) emphasize discourse analysis in writing teaching2) combine writing teaching with reading teaching3) try imitating and summary writing at the level of discourse...
