Classroom teaching is quite valuable to students'development, and also has its limitation. But much more attention is usually paid to the former than the latter.Putting both of its value and limitation on their right places is the basis and premise of making full use of class teaching to develope students'qualities.As to the value of classroom teaching, there exists two kinds of improper opinions.One considers that the main channel to the quality-oriented education lies in classroom teaching; the other one holds that the time in classroom should aims at examin while the time out of classroom should aim at qulity.This research, based on the reflection of the two opinions, analyzes the physical conditions and teachers'idea and behavior that affect students'activities. It points out that the existing classroom teaching mainly focuses on enhance the development of the students by knowledge-learning. That is, knowledge-learning is the main activity in the existing classroom teaching.The thory of educational activity argues that acitvities should be the mechanism of promoting students'development, it means that student'qualities is formed and developed via student'own dynamic activities; different activities have different effects on student' development,there has relative correspondence between activities and development;only various and rich activities can promote students' all-rounded development.Therefore,the values of the existing class teaching mainly lie in the values that knowledge learning have to students'development. Specifically, the value includes three aspects as follows: providing the most important resorce and ways to the development of students'cognitive competence;laying the congnitive basis for students' development out of the cognitive field; being the main approach of cultivating students as knowledge-learning subjective.Because the existing classroom teaching is mainly of knowledge-learning, it has obvious limitation in promoting all students' all-rounded,complete and individualized development, despite its great value to some of the students' developments.The limitations mainly include the following four aspects: failing to realize all students' development; failing to realize students' all-rounded development; failing to realize the efficient development of students' cognitive competence; failing to realize the individualized development of students.In order to enlarge the value of classroom teaching to its greatest extent, we have to tranform the classroom activities,and better the material conditions of the classroom, trying to dig for the underlying developmental value of classroom teaching based on students'developmental requirement and the possible state of classroom teaching. Meanwhile, we should surpass the narrow horizon of the classroom teaching, pursuing the communication and assortion of classroom teaching with activities of outside classroom,extracurriculum and the education of family and society etc.
