On Creation Of Health-Promoting Schools

Good health is man's most valuable wealth and one of the fundamental goals sought in education. Globally initiated by the World Health Organization, the Health Promoting School Program is a basic job with far-reaching influence on human health.In an effort to protect students' health, a school that promotes health, namely, in specific, all the members within the school community, should strive in their joint efforts to get all the families and community members to provide students a complete and conducive experience .Also, there is a need for systematic knowledge including formal and informal health courses, in order to create a safe and healthy school environment with suitable health services. The core idea of a health promoting school is " Health is the top priority".It is our belief that health education in primary and secondary schools is an important part of the full implementation of quality-oriented education. The campaign of health-promoting schools should conform to the trend of the current education reform. The campaign should also meet the objective rules of teenagers' physical and mental growth and satisfy the basic demands of a quality-oriented education. For example, A person needs to be physically healthy, mentally sound, socially capable and emotionally progressive.The campaign of health promoting schools must be guaranteed by a series of policies, strategies and measures .This may includes human resources, material resources, organizations and financial resources. By these terms, a successful campaign will be a comprehensive program, which calls for governmental support and participation of all members', including school teachers and students.Enormously supported by The CCP Shenzhen Luohu District Committee, and the Luohu District Government, the Shenzhen Luohu Education Bureau has been pushing forward, on a large scale, this campaign forhealth- promoting schools. Four years' efforts in the campaigns have witnessed safer and healthier school environments, and improvements in the staff's and students' physical and mental health. In addition, the teachers' and students' have a better understanding of health and can prove a higher rate of healthy behavior. By the end of 2006, a large number of health- promoting schools in the Luohu District have achieved great merits: one winning a gold prize, 5 silver and 43 bronze. As a result, It can be obviously seen that health school promotion has played a key role in advancing social health.
