For many years, "Deaf-mute English"and "Exam English"are the problems that have puzzled us in English teaching of all kinds of schools in China. It also exists in primary school. So some of the pupils'learning interest is reduced and they lack the goal awareness and independence, let alone the autonomy and innovation aspects in their studies. With the development of science and technology, knowledge is being replaced faster and faster. The students nowadays must be cultivated into lifelong learners to adjust themselves to the era of knowledge explosion. Therefore, autonomous learning is becoming more and more important in learning, Autonomous learning has become a hot issue in educational field over the past twenty years and it is important to cultivate learners'ability to self-direct their learning and live independently or successfully later in society. The ultimate goal of quality-oriented education is to promote learner autonomy. But how to promote learner autonomy is still a question. What is being advocated in the thesis is the development of learner autonomy through computer assisted language learning, which provides not only the words but also the sounds, the pictures and the supplementary materials from different resources, and makes autonomous learning by the pupils possible. The concept of "Changing the student's learning style"has been put into the outline of basic education reform. This is treated as an important mission of the basic education reform in our country. Commencing from computer assisted language learning, it can not only change the students'learning style, but also change the teachers'teaching methods. The computer assisted language learning is used to solve the practical problems, paying more attention to fostering the pupils'autonomous learning. In the views of social constructivist and its related theories, knowledge is constructed by individuals rather than transmitted from one person to another. These theories also aim at solving the defects of the traditional systems of teaching theories, and putting forward a series of problem-solving methods. The core is to provide the students with enough authentic and more sufficient information, make them actively construct their own cognitive structure and develop their own creative power. These thoughts agree with the leading ideas of the current basic education in our country. The important topic of the basic education reform is to put forward the quality education, creative education and lifelong education positively. English language teaching is one of the important media in the basic education reform. The constructivist theory being brought into the English classroom, it can better change the English teaching process and promote the quality education, which has very important meaning. This thesis tries to commence from the theory of computer-assisted language learning, taking the constructivist, the creative theory and their related theories as guidance. When combining these theories with English teaching, the pupils'autonomous learning can be cultivated in the activities of English teaching. The purpose is to increase the pupils'goal awareness, arouse the pupils'continuous interest in learning English, so that foster the pupils'English learning autonomy in primary school English teaching model under the new situation.
