The power warfare of the interior of the higher institutions is focus of higher educational circles in many countries. Along with the development of the reform of management system of the higher institutions, the power frame of the interior of the higher institutions is recombining. Yet, up until today, it is still lack of antecedent studies on student power of the higher institutions in our country. American higher institutions has preceded in the student power, especially in election, estimate and participation, and formed unique student power pattern. It's necessary and of value to study the student power in American higher institutions from the aspects of both theory and practice.The thesis consists of five parts. The first part brings forth the reason and significance of study. Part two is the summarize of the student power, defined several related conceptions: power, student power, and resumptively put forward the student power including election, estimate and participation, furthermore discussed the thought foundation and necessity of the student power, and expatiated on feasibility and necessity in theory. The third part, using historical study method, endeavors to describe the evolution process of student power in American higher institutions based on the full and accurate materials, explored on the development status of election, estimate and participation of the student in American higher institution in six historical periods. In the forth part, I give out positive and negative evaluation on student power in American higher institution which is good for exerting subjectivity and creativity of students, improving teaching quality and management efficiency in higher institutions. Simultaneously, it unfolds localization due to lack experience and energy, weakness of academic level and impermanency of student in school. Finally, in the last part, I offer some suggestions on solving the limits of student power in our higher institutions.
