The aim in this experiment was to determine whether physical exercise of different times or period related health, in this case, skin fold fat thickness, physical self-esteem, and mood were tested in four groups which were divided by different times after persistent six weeks and twelve weeks. Based on the former researches, physical exercise could affect skin fold fat thickness, physical self-esteem, and mood. But they couldn't get any unified conclusion and neglect the study of relationship between these three factors. This research compared and related the influence of different exercise groups on skin fold fat thickness, physical self-esteem, and mood. Further on it suggested the effective way of improving the physical and mental health in university.One hundred and forty five participants within four groups tested the skin fold fat thickness, completed the Physical Self-Perception Profile and the Profile of Mood States. During the period, both 3 times and 1 times girl groups did moderate aerobics practice, and both 3 times and 1 times boy groups did moderate basketball practice.The findings suggested, (1) the skin fold fat thickness, the physical self-esteem and the mood state took a little improvement after 6 week persistent exercise in 3 times groups. There weren't any significant changes in 1 times groups; (2) the skin fold fat thickness, the physical self-esteem and the mood state took a great improvement after 6 week persistent exercise in 3 times groups (P<0.05). There were still no significant changes on the physical self-esteem and the mood state in 1 times groups, although the skin fold fat thickness trended to grow; (3) the effects was significant of the route, exercise→skin fold fat thickness→physical self-esteem→mood state, which showed exercise could reduce the skin fold fat thickness, then improve the physical self esteem and mood state well.Conclusion: The effects of basketball and aerobics exercise in moderate intensity and different frequency on the skin fold fat thickness, physical self-esteem and mood was different. The effects of 3 times group was better than 1 times group; the effects of basketball and aerobics exercise in moderate intensity and different constant period on the skin fold fat thickness, physical self-esteem and mood was different. The effects of 12 weeks exercise was better than 6 weeks; physical exercise could decrease skin fold fat thickness, improve physical self esteem and mood state, then it was benefit for mental health.
