Objective:This paper summarizes the research results of relationship between body-esteem, mood, mental health and physical exercise by documents and puts out its research problem explored by experiment according to research shortcoming. To probe the effects of selected basketball and calithenics course of low, moderate intensity on the body-esteem, mood and mental health of college students. Methods: To intervene in experimental subjects for 10 weeks by physical exercise of low, moderate intensity and different events while contrast subjects not participating in physical exercise. In the meantime, adopting the scale of PSPP, POMS and SCL-90 to measure the level of body-esteem, mood and mental health of subjects among experimental and contrast groups before and after the experiment ,then analyzing the experimental results. Results: As to PSPP, There is an improving trend to the level of PSPP of subjects among experimental groups after experiment, of which, there is obvious variation to the total sum of PSPP of male college students of moderate intensity group, near to significant level. There is significant variation to the level of physical self-worth of female college students of low intensity group and body attraction of female college students of moderate intensity group. The subjects' level of SPSS of two contrast groups has no obvious difference before and after the experiment. With respect to mood, basketball exercise of low and moderate intensity has good effects on subjects' scores of tension, anger, depression, fluster and TMD, of which, the variation of subjects' TMD of low intensity near to significant level. Calisthenics exercise of low intensity has obvious effects on subjects' scores of TMD. Calisthenics exercise of moderate intensity has no good effects on anger, depression and vigor, but good effects on fatigue. The mood state of two contrast groups has almost difference before and after the experiment except that male college students' symptom of anger turns to badness. In the way of mental health, basketball exercise of low intensity has obvious effects on human relations and good effects on impulsive disorder, depression, terror and total mean scores to some degree. Basketball exerciseof moderate intensity has significant good effects on impulsive disorder, human relations, depression, terror, nervousness and total mean scores. Calisthenics exercise of low intensity has improved impulsive disorder and human relations significantly. The state of mental health of two contrast groups has no difference before and after the experiment. Conclusion: Basketball course of low and moderate intensity has good effects on the level of PSPP, mood and mental health of male college students. In the case of the level of PSPP and mental health of male college students, the effect of physical exercise of moderate intensity group is better than that of low intensity group. There is an improving trend to the level of PSPP of female college students after the experiment. Calisthenics exercise of low intensity has good effects on mood and mental health of female college students.
