An Investigation Into The Implementing Situation Of Vocabulary Learning Goals At Senior High School

The position of vocabulary as the foundation of language is proved decisive in language learning and application. Therefore, the position of vocabulary teaching can't be neglected in English teaching and learning. The New Curriculum in senior high school has also made great demands on vocabulary in language studies. The target of study in this paper is senior high school English vocabulary teaching aiming to discover the implementing situation of vocabulary teaching goals and the problems in vocabulary teaching which would be analyzed in details in Da'an First Senior High School. Documentary method, questionnaire and interviews are adapted in this study. First, the importance and development of vocabulary teaching is discussed and the vocabulary teaching goals are defined. Then, in accordance to the investigation results, several suggestions are raised to guide the vocabulary teaching in this school. Discoveries in the study are expected to be adopted by the schools of the same level.This thesis consists of five parts:The first part is the introduction part. It provides the background for choosing the topic, the meaning of the research and the methods of the study.The second part reviews the importance and development of language teaching and research. It also defines the vocabulary teaching goals and classifies the vocabulary teaching strategies.The third part is the core of this paper. Aims, methods, object of investigation and design of the questionnaire are introduced. The questionnaire and interviews are analyzed together in details in this part.The fourth part is the suggestions. These suggestions are based on the analysis in part three in order to give reference information of vocabulary teaching strategies. The fifth part makes a reflection on the disadvantages of this paper and proposes further research.
