A Study Of American Higher Education Accreditation

The United States is the earliest country who carries out the higher education accreditation in the world, and gradually formed an American characteristic, integrity higher education accreditation. The thesis chooses the American higher education accreditation as the research object, the purpose is to present American higher education accreditation's function and characteristics by analyzing historical evolution, present situation, procedures of American higher education accreditation, giving reference to our national education reformation.The thesis uses the method of documentation and induction to analyze and present the materials inland and abroad. It mainly consists of four chapters.Chapter one examines the historical evolution of higher education accreditation based on the three historical education safeguards systems, the historical changes of the American higher education accreditation system, which describes the different stresses and different content of the higher education accreditation in the different time.Chapter two describes the present situation of the American higher education accreditation. Examining the reasons and purposes that American institutions take part in the accreditation, and accrediting organizations. The original organization under the present higher education accreditation.Chapter three presents the practice of the American higher education accreditation. It concretely analyzes the procedures of higher education accreditation in the USA, meanwhile introduces accrediting application, institutional self-review, peer review, on-site evaluation or visiting ,examining results, and review six steps.On the basis of the examination of the former three chapters, chapter four mainly made a generalized analysis summary among the function and characteristics of the American higher education accreditation. Focusing on the consideration and enlightenment to our nation's higher education reformation, under the analysis of the present American higher education accreditation, the relationship among government accrediting organization and university.
