Due to the constraints from all kinds of family educational capital, such as theeconomic capital, the cultural capital, and the social capital, the family education ofsocial vulnerable groups in cities is suffering from some in-ignorable problems indifferent aspects, including educational concept of parents, family educational content,family educational means, family atmosphere, and parent-child relationship. Theseproblems affect the school and social education for the children of social vulnerablegroups in cities. Since it hinders the education for the social vulnerable groups incities, the society needs to support these groups. Comparing to other organizations,school, as a specialized educational institution, has an obvious advantage insupporting family education for social vulnerable groups in cities, which makes it thebest entry point for society support. But the current support in family education forsocial vulnerable groups in cities from schools is not practically effective enough.There are many aspects that need to be improved. In this thesis, targeting on thefamily education for children of the laid-off workers, based on investigation of thefamily education and social support condition, we analyze the fundamental causes forthe ineffectiveness of current school support. Then, we research on how school canhelp the family education for the laid-off workers' children. We will point out theways of help, then we will explain some general mistakes people make. Finally, inconclusion, we will propose some strategies for school to support social vulnerablegroups in family education.This thesis is organized in five parts. In the first chapter, the motivation for thiswork is briefly explained and current research progress in this field is introduced. Thisdemonstrates the meaning of the work in this thesis and the research methodology.Also, the related core concepts are defined. In the second chapter, investigation andanalysis of the current family education and social support for the laid-off workers'children are carried out. The problematic aspects are pointed out, especially thoserelated to school support. In the third chapter, theoretical analysis on school supportfor family education of saocial vulnerable groups is conducted. The necessity and feasibility of school support are discussed and deep factors hindering schooleffectiveness are revealed. The forth chapter is devoted to research in real school. Bycollaborating with school, especially teachers, actual instructions for school supportare experimented. Based on the experimental results, combining social support theory,we propose some strategies for school to support family education for socialvulnerable groups. Finally, in the last chapter, the research results are summarized,potential problems are discussed and further research directions are pointed out.
