Slow Learners (SL) are those students who have difficulties inlearning. It is a great problem in basic education. Among SL those whohave difficulties in learning maths occupies the largest portion, which is abig problem in maths teaching and a difficult one in maths teachingresearch too. A survey shows that the main reason for the middle schoolstudents and primary school students to drop out of school is that theycannot follow the teaching, which covers the 57% of the whole droppingouts. Among them most are bad at maths. So it is as necessary for ourcountry and society to improve our SL as well as to develop the quicklearners. It is related with the realization of the quality improvement of allthe people of our country and the realization of the strategic goal ofenriching our country with science and education. At the time of qualityeducation, if the maths educators can successfully improve the SL, it willbe a great contribution to the carrying of the quality education. They willlay very good and strong foundations for the training of students withhigh quality for our country.At present, most maths researches in this field only pay muchattention to middle schools and primary schools while little attention ispaid to vocational education. As far as what I have found out isconcerned: As to the SL, researchers always try to find the reasons whythey become "a sl" from the inner factors, that is from the studentsthemselves; while to the outer factors such as school education, familyeducation, social environment, and how to prevent them from cominginto being and how to improve them, they have done much less work. According to the present situation of vocational schools, guided bythe theories of education and educational physiology and on the basisresearches inside and outside of our country, the thesis made a samplesurvey in the way of questionnaire in Zhuzhou Southern Middle Schooland the First Secondary Votech School In Zhuzhou and analyzed resultcarefully. In the thesis the writer studied the relationship between the poorstudents at maths and the outer factors——school education, familyeducation, social environments. The whole thesis is divided into fiveparts:Part One: Introduction. According to Professor Zhangdianzhou, SLat maths are divided into two types: One is out of inner factors and theother is out of outer factors. The thesis stated typical concepts that lead tothe existing of SL at maths. And on such a basis the writer, according towhat she has learned and gained in teaching practice, discussed therelationship between the SL at maths and the outer factors——schooleducation, family education, social environments and also the tactics todeal with them.Part Two: Now our country regards vocational education as thestrategic focus point for later educational work. The thesis stated thepractical meaning and aim of the research from the following aspects: theimportance of vocational education for solving "Three agriculturalproblems"; the importance of vocational education for building theharmonious society; the importance and position of maths; theinstructional function of maths in vocational education; and the worryingpresent situation of maths teaching and learning and etc. The thesis alsotalked about the definitions given by the experts, educators and scholars inside and outside our country.Part Three: In the way of questionnaire, the writer found out outerfactors affected the SL greatly. Through the analysis of the results of thesurvey, the writer found 74% of the SL thought they became SL becauseof the school, and 17% of them because of the family atmosphere and10% because of the social environment.Part Four: the writer analyzed that the existing of poor students atmaths in vocational schools has close relation with the school educationand some relation with family and society. As to the school education,during the period of junior middle school, education is connected withrewards and benefits; As to the vocational education itself, it has its ownhistorical reasons: Vocational education is not complete. Students cannotlearn in a good learning atmosphere. Teachers usually use inappropriateteaching ways to teach students and etc; As to the family education, somestudents are not from a harmonious family. The parents don't know howto educate their children and some parents just leave their children athome alone or with their parents and earn money outside. And someunhealthy information, net bars, games and etc affected their mathslearning directly and indirectly too.Part Five: The writer put forward her own ideas, suggestions, adviceand tactics according to the outer factors.Part Six: case analyzsis.
