Slow learners' learning difficulties are a universal phenomenon of the foundation stage of education, which is hindering the progress of such students, restricting the education efficiency and troubling many countries' education development. Slow learners also have led to some social problems, which directly delayed the local economic development. Therefore many educational experts and scholars have conducted many researches into such a problem from different angles and had a number of achievements. As a sub-project in the education sector, English slow learners' learning difficulties are also growing concern and attention. Currently, the researches mainly focus on cognition, they are from the perspective of all disciplines, or from the moral point of the view. However, few people have studied it from a particular perspective of the disciplines, such as the aspect of English Teaching.To define "who are the slow learners?" we should not do it using the "one size fits all" approach, because one student may be very poor in English, but he can still be excellent in Chinese. Considering these conditions, it's better to define slow learners in a certain subject, and in turn the transformation of slow learners should be varying in different subjects.Based on relative research results from home and abroad, using theories from educational psychology and teaching methodology, this thesis applies the methods of samples and analyses to deal with the problems of slow learners in schools in Changshu , to analyze the causes of their learning difficulties, and to sum up the reasons leading to their backwards in study. The thesis has also made some attempts in the means of improvement, which is to attach emphasis to the development of their non-intellectual factors, to create better family environment, as well as to establish a proper evaluation system which benefits the slow learners.The full thesis is structured as following:Part One elaborates the reasons,significance and purposes of writing this thesis .Part Two generalizes the researches into the slow learners at home and abroad, and the enlightenment from these studies.Part Three introduces the theoretical basis of this thesis.Part Four introduces the definitions of slow learners in English study and the samples,the study ways of this thesis and analyzes the causes of slow learners in English study through samples and other information.Part Five introduces some basic concepts, principles and specific methods in the process of transforming the slow learners in English study.Part Six sums up.The study and the corresponding practice shows that only by paying close attention to the slow learners in English study and finding out the root causes can we efficiently do the job of transformation and suit the remedy to the case, which ends up improving their study and helping them develop harmoniously and comprehensively.
