With English more and more widely used in social communication, writing, as one of the four basic skills of language teaching and an aspect of communicative competence, has drawn more and more attention in the field of the English language teaching. The product and process approaches to English writing teaching can't solve the problems in students' text consciousness and logical organization of ideas and structures. Besides, the students' cognition and experience can't attain the relevant level to produce their own text. In this case, it is not effective to develop students' writing skill.On the basis of the theories of Text Linguistics, such as theme and rheme, the thematic progression and expansion of sentences, cohesion and coherence, types of inter-sentence and inter-paragraph relationship, context, the thesis constructs a comprehensive teaching model "Construing---Discussing---Imitating---Constructing" to develop the writing skill of students in senior middle schools. The comprehensive teaching model attaches importance to the perception, cognition, learning, imitation and mastery of the system of macro-micro knowledge about texts such as structure of information, theme, progression and expansion of topics, logical arrangement of details, cohesion of sentence, coherence of meaning, organization of compositions, etc. The system of macro-micro knowledge about texts is perceived and highlighted by way of construing the text. Then it is processed and internalized in the mind by way of discussing, identified and familiarized by way of summary writing and imitated writing. The students can gradually learn and master the features of text while imitating. Finally on the basis of the sturdy knowledge of language system, the students should read more and practise more so that they can construct their own text. In this way their writing ability is sure to be improved.
