The question-settings in basic education examinations, especially the high school entrance examination and college entrance examination, have all the time received much concern. As one of the important question types in examination, subjective test question can clearly shed light on the students' thinking process and the extent they understand the questions, thus reflecting the competence gaps of examinees in an all-round way. Launching a study on the subjective test question setting in basic education examination, not only meets the need of carrying a scientific testing, but contributes greatly to the education reform and development. Therefore, the implementation of the present study shall be of great urgency and necessity.By means of the methods of literature review, analysis and statistics, the thesis has a historical review of the using of subjective test questions in school examinations, and gives a systematic elaboration on its connotation, characteristics and major testing functions as well as the theoretical foundation of its question-setting. Meanwhile, considering the current situation of using the subjective test question in the basic education examination of our country, the author also carries out a further analysis on the existing problems in subjective test question settings.Lastly, in allusion to the two new types of subjective test questions, i.e. social applied question and exploring question, the thesis probes into their respective connotation, characteristics and testing functions as well as their theoretical foundations, consequently putting forward the model and principle of the question-setting of these two types.
