Honesty is one of the traditional virtues in China. But in recent years, this virtue has been dwarfed by other seemingly important considerations, and this situation gives rise to a variety of disturbing problems in society. It is not uncommon for us to notice the similar cases of lack of honesty in college students. This phenomenon has roused widespread concern.To improve the character of honesty and integrity in college students, we should first conduct a comprehensive review on the status quo of integrity in college students and an overall analysis of the problems, and on such basis, we should conduct a causal analysis of the lack of honesty. Then, we should probe the concrete integrity components of college student value system, and make efforts to search in to the means and approaches to the successful construction of integrity system. In accordance with this line of thought, the author conducts an analysis on the problems concerning the lack of honesty and provides theoretical and practical guidance in constructing a wholesome honesty system.At first, it is meaningful both in theory and in practice to raise doubt about honesty of college students. Theoretically, Marxism on the nature and character of human being provides philosophical foundation for integrity education; law of formation and development of student morality is the psychological foundation for integrity education; socialist theory on spiritual civilization construction is the objective foundation for integrity education. The practical significance of raising the question lies in the fact that integrity education is one of the most important parts of ideological education; that integrity and ethics are demonstration of fine character; that integrity is one of the core requirements in the objectives of higher education in China.Secondly, the thesis deals with the basic contents and components of integrity in college students. China enjoys a history of prioritizing integrity. Since the Spring and Autumn Period, Chinese ancient philosophers and scholars have began to interpret and emphasize integrity ethics, thus paving the way for integrity as the deep ethical consciousness of Chinese people. In western civilizations, the notion of integrity has been long in existence and is the precondition for contract theory. Undoubtedly, in researching and constructing modern integrity system, it is extremely significant for us to reorganize the traditional integrity concepts in Chinese and Western civilizations and to probe their origins, fundamental causes and internal links.Thirdly, the author discusses the status quo of integrity and conducts a concrete causal analysis. The students'lack of integrity manifests as follows: cheating in examinations and employment applications by means of false certificates, exaggerated resume, falsified transcripts, forged diplomas, breach of contract, and other forms of cheating; refusing to pay back the study loan when managing money; suspecting, cheating, and lying to rather than trusting friends. The author believes that the main reasons for these problems are: immaturity of some students; insufficiency of integrity education in society, family and school; influence of negative elements in society; imperfection of educational mechanism and managing mechanism. These problems demand the attention of all social parties.Finally, based on the summary of external effects and internal reasons, the author presents a proposal of constructing integrity education system. We can attain the objective by introducing advanced educational model of foreign countries, inheriting traditional notions of integrity education home and abroad and readjusting integrity education contents; by intensifying academic and social integrity education, purifying campus and social environment, employing community function in integrity education, and on this basis, enforcing relevant laws so that an effective supervision and evaluation system can be established to ensure the desired educational effects and to construct a desirable integrity education system..
