Primary school kids lie in an important phase of recognizing gender role and forming gender consciousness. Reading can help affect their gender cognition and construction, particularly the role that textbook reading plays in either reinforcing or eliminating gender stereotypes can not be underestimated. This thesis has discussed and analyzed the function of gender stereotypes on the construction of gender consciousness and the relationship between the obtaining of gender stereotypes with reading activities of primary kids based on the view and method proposed by the theory of social genders. It has, with a view that the kids have gender consciousness, proceeded with the survey, statistics, and analysis of Chinese textbooks for primary schools and has made an overview of gender impression in the current textbooks, analyzing the expressive ways of gender stereotypes. It has also discussed some effective teaching strategies and methods to lessen and eliminate gender stereotypes, hence guiding and helping kids to recognize their own gender roles so as to establish wholesome gender consciousness and perfect personalities.
