The principle of gender equality has been a basic national policy in our constitution.The government has also put some concrete policy into effect by materializing the principle to the course and schoolbook.As an international metropolitan,Shanghai has been a region where the level of gender equality is relatively high on either the national or international level.And the sense of gender equality has been widely recognized by its people.With its high level of education,Shanghai has also the right to edit its own schoolbook independently.So the actual schoolbook edit by Shanghai Educational Publishing House(SEPH)should be a schoolbook that can reflect the sense of gender equality.The present thesis takes the Chinese Manual of the SEPH version(volume 1-10)as the research object.By the method of frequencies analysis,substance analysis and comparative analysis,we try to study the gender trend.The frequencies analysis includes the analysis of the gender of the characters of the text and title,the gender of the appellation and their meanings,and also the gender of the characters in the illustration.The content analysis contains,by the point of view of language,vocabulary,phrase,and mainline of the story,the analysis of the different image of the different gender in the public and private area.By the point of view of moral equality,we've also studied the different role of male and female.At last,we've done a longitudinal study.By comparing the results of former studies,we tried to discover the improvement of our research object.On the other hand,there has been no breakthrough in the frequency and content.There are still obvious gender biases in the schoolbook.By this research,we try to understand the sense of gender equality in the schoolbook of Chinese for elementary school in Shanghai and show the evolution of gender ideology.We wish that the thesis could be a reference for the editor.And also,it could serve as a reference for the development of the gender equality sense in the school and in the class.
