Coping refers to the individual using cognitive and acting measure when he/she faces life events. Coping styles is specific coping action after evaluating in the course of coping. As a mediating factor, coping styles effects on pressure's quality and degree, and mediates the relationship between stress and health. Some studies have shown that coping styles is found to be strongly associated with psychological well-being, meanwhile there is positive correlation between coping styles with life career and mental character. Some studies have shown that coping styles is associated with gender, age, personality. The relationships between coping styles with locus of control, parental locus of control and general self efficacy have yet to be further studied. The study investigates coping styles of middle school students, explores the correlations between coping styles with gender, grade, family economy, parents educated degree, locus of control, parental locus of control and general self-efficacy. The study will put forward available measures for families and schools.Subjects and Methods1. The Subjects : 631 students from four middle schools were chosen to answer a questionnaire.2. Methods: 631 middle school students were measured by a questionnaire of coping styles scale, locus of control scale, parental locus of control scale and general self-efficacy scale.3. Statistical Analysis: All the data were processed by SPSS11.0 and samples were analyzed using t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficients and a regression analysis, withα=0.05 as the standard. Results1. There was significant gender difference in help-seeking and rational style (P<0.05) , there was no statistically significant differences in the current sample inlevels of coping styles across grade.2. Family economy was correlated positively with problem-solving style (r=0.088, P<0.05) , and negatively with withdrawal style(r=-0.091 ,P<0.05).3. Father's educated degree was correlated positively with problem-solving and help-seeking style(r=0.123,r=0.142,P<0.05) ,and negatively with self-blaming style(r=-0.196,P<0.05) . Mother's educated degree was correlated positively with help-seeking style (r=0.106,P<0.05) , negatively with self-blaming and withdrawal style (r=-0.165, r=-0.081, P<0.05) .4. There was no gender difference in levels of locus of control (P>0.05) . There was a significant correlation between externality with self-blaming, fantasy, withdrawal, rational style (r=0.252,r=0.310,r=0.199,r=0.308,P<0.05) ; There was inverse correlation between externality with help-seeking style (r=-0.247,P<0.05) .5. There was no statistically significant difference in measures of parental locus of control by gender (P>0.05) . Parental efficacy was related to withdrawal and rational style (r=0.132,r=0.092,P<0.05) , inversely related to problem-solving and help-seeking style (r=-0.118,r=-0.085,P<0.05) . Child control of parents' life was related to self-blaming and fantasy style (r=0.141,r=0.121,P<0.05) , inversely related to help-seeking style (r=-0.111 ,P<0.05). A number of significant positive correlations were obtained between parental control of child's behavior with self-blaming, fantasy, rational style (r=0.102,r=0.105,r=0.092,P<0.05), negative correlations were obtained between parental control of child's behavior with problem-solving and help-seeking style (r=-0.090,r=-0.143,P<0.05) .6. There was statistically significant difference in measures of general self efficacy by gender (P<0.05) . There was positive correlation between general self efficacy with problem-solving and help-seeking style (r=0.117, r=0.083,P<0.05) , there was negative correlation between general self efficacy with self-blaming, fantasy, withdrawal style (r=-0.222,r=-0.105,r=-0.138,P<0.05) . Conclusions1. The common styles of middle school students coping frustration and trouble are help seeking, problem-solving, withdrawal, fantasy, rational and self-blaming. There is no grade difference in levels of coping styles.2. The middle school students in high-income family tend to use problem-solving style, meanwhile withdrawal style is seldom used.3. The middle school students in high-educated family tend to use problem-solving and help-seeking style, meanwhile self-blaming and withdrawal style are seldom used.4. Externals tend to use self-blaming, fantasy, withdrawal, rational style, but help seeking style is seldom used.5. There is no gender difference in terms of parents educated attitude. The middle school students that their parents have high scores in measures of parental efficacy tend to use withdrawal and rational style. The middle school students that their parents have high scores in measures of child control of parents' life tend to use self-blaming and fantasy style. The middle school students that their parents have high scores in measures of parental control of child's behavior tend to use self-blaming, fantasy, rational style.6. Male have higher scores than female in terms of general self efficacy. The middle school students who have high self efficacy tend to use problem-solving and help-seeking style, but seldom use self-blaming,fantasy and withdrawal style.
