As in the case of economic activities, adult education in Southwest University should be based on the relationship of supply and demand in market economy. With incessant innovation of China's economic system and industrial restructuring, adult education is confronted with increasing challenges in terms of quality and approaches; meanwhile, opportunities are also abundant to Southwest University due to the national enlargement of the population of university students and the prestigious reputation of its education.Despite the great economic potentialities, adult education in Southwest University is not well structured in demand as demonstrated in the unbalanced distribution of students among different majors and specialties. For instance, demand in professional education is vigorous, especially in high-level professional training. The instantiation of supply means the integration of the supply intention and capacity on the part of the producer. Thanks to the prestigious reputation, well-established Internet long-distance education system and fully-developed high-level professional training, Southwest University embodies advantageous potentiality in adult educational and high-level professional training. However, the actual supply of its adult education is greatly hindered by the excessive cost of student training which results from costly management, shortage of teachers, lack of facilities, undesirable major distribution, and insufficiency in funding.A comprehensive analysis of the current demand and supply of adult education in Southwest University illuminates that the supply of adult education in Southwest University cannot meet the vigorous demand from the society. Several reasons account for the fact, such as inequality in educational opportunities, unbalanced distribution in various specialties and institutions, as well as in location. In the present circumstances, it is crucial to build a well-structured system of adult education to address the problem in the development of adult education in Southwest University. The author proposes that adult education in Southwest University should have a clear objective while restructuring the resources so as to improve educational models and further foster its features. By making full use of the educational resources, Southwest University can increase the supply of adult education to meet the social demand for first-rate adult education.
