Correlation Analysis Between Population Distribution And Region Economy Development Of Gansu Province Within Recent 10 Years

With the rapid growth of population, as well as the unprecedented extensive and in-depth development of human activities, the relationship between mankind and nature is gradually becoming maladjusted. Population,Resources,Environment and Development are becoming universal problems which worry countries all over the world. Among the four subsystems of PRED, the connection between Population and Development is the central concern and consequently attracts comprehensive attentions from geography,economy and demology.The changes of population and economy are important parts of the research of regional differences and considered as two outstanding indexes reflecting regional differences. It contributes to the harmonious development of population,economy,resources and environment to properly deal with the interaction between population and economy. And this is also the precondition for the rapid,healthy and harmonious development of regional economy under favorable population environment.Taking the interaction between population distribution and economic development as the clue and 86 towns of Gansu province as the research object, this article implements comprehensive comparative analysis of the dynamic evolvement procedure of population and spatial distribution as well as regional variety of Gansu province over the past some 10 years, referring to the gravity center model and Theil model and taking advantage of GIS technology. And then the article systematically examines the interaction mechanism between the population distribution and regional collocation of economy development in Gansu over the past more ten years, stating the law,trend and characteristics of the interactive development procedure between population distribution and economic development.According to the investigation, the general spatial pattern of regional economic development in Gansu can be reflected by the advantage that the northwest district has over southeast district. And this trend is intensifying. By quantifying regional differences using Theil coefficient, it is found that Theil coefficient (T index)is at large bigger than Theil coefficient (L index). This shows that the regional differences of economic development in Gansu, which are considered the main reflection of regional differences, are more notable than the regional differences of population. In the last some ten years, the regional differences in Gansu province has generally a trend of enlargement and behave not only as the varieties inside the province but also the varieties among economic regions. The varieties of economic development among the towns of LongZhong region are decisive for the varieties of economic development in Gansu province. Consequently, dwindling the varieties among the towns of LongZhong region is decisive to dwindle the varieties in Gansu province. Besides, the varieties among economic regions are contributing more and more to the general varieties.The northwest part of Gansu province always behaves as the center of the economy, reflecting the imbalance between economic development and population distribution in Gansu province. From 1994 to 2004, the center of population,the center of GDP and the center of three industrials are moving northwest. However, the center of the economy is moving to a fuller extent and the center of economy is having a more serious departure from the center of population, showing that the imbalance between economic development and population distribution is intensifying. Concerning different districts, the center of economy has the most serious departure from the center of population in Hexi and the departure declines in the order of Longzhong,The south Minority Nationalities Areas,Longnan and Longdong. From the view of evolvement, the imbalance between economy and population in Longzhong,Longdong and Longnan is intensifying except the trend of balance in Hexi and The south Minority Nationalities Areas.Regarding the center of three Industrials, the center of GDP has the maximum correlation coefficient with the center of the first industry and a small correlation coefficient with the center of the Secondary Industry before 1999. After 1999, the relativity between the center of GDP and the center of the first industry and the tertiary industry distinctly declines. And the center of GDP is closely related with the center of the Secondary Industry by the means of transferring after its development. This shows that the great economic development in Gansu since West-development Strategy depends mainly on the Secondary Industry which takes Heavy Industry as its majority component. All the time, High Energy-Consuming Industries as Coal Industry,Fossil-fired Power Plant,Cement Industry,Steel Industry,petrochemical industry,Aluminum Electrolysis Industry dominate the development of industry .The fact of that Gansu holding the a high level of Energy Consumption is verified the results of this paper.
