The important mission of the higher education is to gear the needs of the modernization, of the world, of the future and to cultivate versatile talents with professional, enterprising and practicing abilities. Therefore, the Sports Teaching major has a close relationship with the reforming of the school's sports. In the June of 2003, the Ministry of Education launched a cultivation model of personnel in order to match the needs of the construction in 21st century. This model is the Curriculum Program for Sports Education Majors Undergraduates in National Regular Higher Education Institutes. It aims at comprehensive talents who have good basis of knowledge, extensive outlook, high qualities, strong abilities, fine adaptability and good innovations.Volleyball is one of the important courses for Sports Education majors, which occupies an important position in Sports Education Department. The scientific system of volleyball course is an necessary method to realize the goal of Sports Education. However, more and more courses are added in the cultivation program. The volleyball lessons are lessening on the contrary. How does the volleyball course adopt to the essential education reformation and the needs of the development of the society? As an important sports province, this is a question all of the educators need to think about.In order to research the current situation of volleyball course for sports education undergraduates in Shandong province, it adopts the methods of literatures, interviews, questionnaires, comparison, statistics, and logic analysis. At the same time, it discusses the teaching reform of volleyball teaching in our province according to the current state. The thesis shows that the reform of the basic education accelerates the development of the reform of volleyball course, which brings chances and challenges to the course. The teaching system and method of volleyball course cannot match the development of the reform of basic education. The content is boring. Though it emphasizes the basic and typical characteristics of volleyball teaching, there is no unique point. Meanwhile, it ignores the cultivation of the practicing ability. The teaching method is old. The rate of the adoption of modern education technology is low. The evaluation and judgment only emphasizes students'comprehension of volleyball's basic knowledge and techniques. It ignores the evaluation of students'abilities. The way of evaluation and judgment is monotonous, which is final and teachers'evaluation mostly. This method overlooks the individuality. The structures of teachers'age, diploma and profession are reasonable. Teachers with master and doctor degrees are increasing gradually. These can promote the teaching and researching level and the reform of the curriculum. There are some versions of volleyball course, but the structure and content is not fresh, which cannot catch up the pace with the updating of the society.According to the research and the combination of the current situation and tendency of the reform of Sports Education curriculum for majors both at home and abroad, and also according to he demanding of the society, the thesis submits following suggestions: according to the reform of the healthy education for students in middle and primary schools, we should re-make the goal of the volleyball course; the supervised aim is"healthy first"; accelerate the development of the content of volleyball course; optimize the content of the course; emphasize the cultivation and development of the students'abilities; emphasize innovation and reform of the teaching method and way; improve the system of assessment; accelerate the updating speed of the volleyball teaching materials and make them consistent with the development; reinforce the construction of the teaching group and promote the comprehensive abilities of them.
