As is known to all, lexical learning plays an important role in the system of the whole language learning. In China, the previous related studies especially the lexical study are limited in college students, fewer researches found on middle school students. What's more, students find it rather difficult to learn English lexical and feel heavy mental pressure in it. Based on such a background, this study is conducted to find out the lexical learning strategies employed by Chinese common senior middle school students so as to enhance their English learning competence and to improve its quality fully as well.This paper includes three chapters. Chapter one is covered with the theories of second language learning and lexical learning strategies. Chapter two mainly does a research on Chinese senior middle school students'strategies in learning English lexical employing the questionnaire method. The questionnaire contains 30 questions to which subjects are expected to respond anonymously.Data are collected and processed. The main findings of the research are as follows:1. Chinese senior middle school students employed a variety of vocabulary learning strategies ranging from metacognitive to cognitive strategies, but the overall level of learning strategies in English vocabulary is low.2. Significant difference is shown in the usage level between successful language learners and unsuccessful language learners.3. Lack of efficient lexical learning strategies is the most problem that the students are facing in the lexical learning.In the last chapter of this paper, some suggestions have been proposed on the basic training principles of English lexical learning strategies and the training methods based on the findings of the research.Generally speaking, lexical learning is the foundation of the whole language learning. Not only should the students use a variety of strategies and put their heart into learning them, but also at the same time, English teachers ought to change their educational notion and train their students'learning strategies consciously in class so as to break through the bottleneck.
