Plane geometry plays an important part in junior math education. In recent decades, many math experts, teachers and researchers both at home and abroad have done plenty of research and gotten many achievements. In the new reform of math course, the"Fulltime System Compulsory Education Standard of Math Course (Experimental Version 2001)"gradually takes the place of the old"Teaching Program of Junior Math (Revised Version 2000)."During the period of compulsory education,"Space and Figure"is developed from the part of"Geometry"in the old"Teaching Program."However, what is the aim of this kind of development? What is the change in the content correspondently? How can we reflect the thought of the new course in the teaching of"Space and Figure"? With the thinking of those questions and the experience of math teaching in past years, as well as with the passion for the research of geometry teaching, the writer, along with many other teachers around him in Chancheng District, Foshan, who are now having experiments on new course, are doing research on the math teaching of"Space and Figure"in junior school.Prof. Jiang Boju, a mathematician and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, has expressed concerns over the current reform of the teaching of Plane Geometry. Inspired by his concerns, the present paper focused on the following aspects. First, through reviewing the reform of geometry teaching at home and abroad as well as research situations, the present paper clarifies the background and the significance of the teaching of"Space and Figure"guided by the"Standard."Second, by making comparisons on the textbooks guided by the"Standard"and the experimental textbook published by Beijing Normal University Press, the writer does research on the experimental textbook, analyzes the reform of geometry teaching. Third, based on the experience and the practice of teaching"Space and Figure"using the experimental textbooks, the writer conducted surveys of teachers'opinions about the teaching of"Space and Figure"guided by the"Standard."The writer also investigates students'abilities of proving using self-designed test questions and looks into the adaptability of teachers and students to"Space and Figure"based on the results of High School Entrance Examination. Finally, the paper answers the questions concerning the reform of geometry teaching raised by Prof. Jiang Boju and considers the widely existing problems of the current reform of geometry teaching.
