Adopting to the basic modern economics theory and research methods, basing on the education and economic development theory, using 300 rural household samples data obtained from Jilin Province, this thesis analyzes the determinant factors of household senior schooling choice in the economically underdeveloped rural areas with the Logistic model, and specially explores the differences between boys and girls. This article can be divided into five parts, the structure of the article is as follows:In the first part, the author expounds on the background and significance of this thesis, shows the feasibility of analyzing farmers'behaviors with modern economic theory and methods, reviews the research on household schooling choice abroad and in nation, introduces the research objectives, methods and data source. In the second part, the author analyzes the private education cost in rural senior schools, gives the definition and classification of education cost on the basis of the existing literatures, makes a quantificational analysis of the direct and indirect education cost in rural senior schools, calculates the burden rate of household senior schooling cost in rural areas, analyzes the influencing factors on rural household senior schooling expenditure with multivariate regression model. In the third part, the author estimates the farmers'private rate of return to education in Jilin Province in the year 2006 by production function. In the fourth part, the author analyzes the determinant factors of household senior schooling choice in the economically underdeveloped rural areas with the Logistic model on the basis of family education decision model from the human capital theory. In the fifth part, the author gives the conclusions and some brief policy recommendations. The main conclusions are:Firstly, during the senior schooling, there is little difference among all families'educational expenditure in the economically underdeveloped rural areas, but the burden rate of schooling expenditure is very heavy. Father's education has positive effects on household schooling expenditure and mother's is opposite. Increase the government's investment in education will reduce the burden of family's educational expenditure.Secondly, the farmers'private rate of return to education in Jilin Province is at least 2.4% in the year 2006.Finally, increase in household permanent income , proxied by household expenditures per capita, has significant positive effects on enrollments of all children. Mother's education is positive associated with children's education, especially for the girls, and the influence of mother's education is much more important than father's. But father's education has inapparent negative impact on the boys. And both father's and mother's education have more effects on girls than boys. The population in a family has significant positive effects on enrollments of all children, but the size of the labor force and other schooling children has significant negative effects. When the local government's expenditure on education increases, the effects will be decrease which come from household income, parent education and so on. Senior school fee is negative associated with child education, but its effect is very finite. The chances of regional non-farm employment have significant effects on children enrollment. Higher female's wage rates in the regions, higher the boys enrollment, and male's is reverse. The opportunity cost of boys'schooling exceeds girl.
