The Inter-construction Of Society And Time

The time was on the fringe of sociology theory researches, if not been neglected. This situation is not fit the important role of time in the society. This article is a try to theorizing the relation of the time and the society on the bases of predecessor.The development of society constructs the time which people experiences: firstly, the time system has changed. It is the outside arrangement. Secondly, is the different sense of the time. It is the change of people life's rhythm. The thirdly, is the change of the idea of time. The last change is related to the others, but it is the social conscious which is most underneath the structure of society. This research takes more to this social conscious. Because only in we cognized it,then we can catch the real relationship between time and society. From this research we may find the time never been the circumstance variety, nor the time system change been constructed of society and change of life's rhythm conducted by the system change. For the more, the connection of time and the development of society was duality, which discussed in Giddens'works.This article is on the theory base of Giddens'social construction theory, discussed the time from the conception duality. My opinion is: time is the product of social construct, time restricted by the social structure. Not only been a social system, but also from more microcosmic view been a social conscious, the time constructed our life. To outline the social structure's contacts of time and the time's agency, this article choose view of longitudinal dynamic progress to discuss my subject. From the traditional society to the modern society, the social structure changed from the head to the foot. These changes manifest in the differences of time system, time senses and time ideas. But more important is time's construction to the society. For that, this construction takes more important in my article. This article try to prove that the idea of time has been always attended the society's construction. Even if in modernization progress in which the structure changed most drastic, the traditional idea has attended. The traditional idea of time constructs different kinds of social ideas and acts. Only to the post-modern society, the effect of traditional idea of time losses gradually, of course it has consanguineous relationship to the transition of post-modern society. Unearth the transition of social structure, the social conscious continues in the deeper lever. The traditional idea of time manifest its effects everywhere in the modern society.Simply saying, in the traditional society, man's acts have been more contracted by the nature, the time system aims to adjust the relationship of man and the nature. Because the move sluggishly quality, the fold of space and the common time is the social base of traditional society; the social life of yesterday, today and tomorrow are all the same, the traditional society manifest its recurrent quality. Yesterday was canonized; it is the model of now and the aim to the future. From the view of time, we can explain the common collective conscious of mechanism solidarity; find the social roots of ancestor apotheosis, and the validity roots of traditional authority. In the progress of traditional society transition to the modern industrial society, the traditional society of time-space isomorphism was destruct. The industrial revolution induces the belief to the technique, the stinking of man's reason ability, the dreams to evolution. These are all new social disfigurement. But the transition period also induces series of social problems. The chaos of value and the loss of moral, the inadequate of industrialization, the towns'flourish company with the decline of countryside all confuse the thinkers of society in that time. The belief of reason which was induced by the enlightenment, in the opposite is the suspicion remained, and the memory of the traditional life which was like country poems. We can look it to the traditional time ideas against. The traditional time ideas have constructed the society in the social transition period in more aspects, if we say the conservatism to the remained, the evolution theory must be an anamorphosis, the modern society's seeking to orders is also effected by the traditional time ideas, the founded of nation has the same roots of ancestor apotheosis in the traditional society.The modernization which is typically manifested in the industrial revolution founded the modern system of time. This system's character is control. The industrial society aims to the efficiency, so it aims to control the risks. The uncertainty must be standardization, then it can be changed to risk which was countable. The social program, the insurance system and the function divided, are all the product of this social system. From all these time systems we not only find the differences in time tropism, but also see the continuity. So we call the modern society's time system another continues to the traditional time idea.Only in the postmodern society, the certainty of time has been broken. Beck advances the theory of risk society. He thinks that the risk is the character of flourishing modernity, it is produced by the modernization and can not be resolved by itself. The risk induces the uncountable and uncontrollable of ends, it is the character of postmodern society. From another side, the models of time are pluralizing gradually: the relationship of produce and the consumption was broken by the new connection of time and consumption i; the postmodern society is in the form of break the tradition constructing a new tradition.
