The paper starts with the study background and development situation of self-learning system at network surroundings. It outspreads from the concepts, theory elements and technology methods of self-learning and individual learning. By the analysis and comparison of self-learning at several network surroundings in and outside of the country, the paper fully discusses general rules and realizing procedures of self-learning system.Self-learning supporting system based on WEB surroundings, which is on the basis of network advantages, during the learning, students have good attitude and wills to understand and solve the problems, with scientific methods to research, joining in the group to study, so as to solve the problems, in the end ,mastering the related knowledge and abilities. Teachers play a role of enlightening, guiding and helping students. With learning proceedings of researching problems with scientific methods, self-learning is suitable to the network surroundings. Network can find lots of resources, help students establish groups to study together and enable teachers to guide timely, at last achieving the better affects than traditional teachings.After the analysis of several self-learning systems, the paper focuses on solving the following questions: firstly, it focuses on students, considers seriously self-learning and individual characters. Secondly, the system has the elements of personality. It shows the active attitude of students and links with the guiding of teachers. Thirdly, the system is different from traditional exam systems and general learning systems. It has their advantages, that is to say, it is a educational system fully with learning and exams. This also follows the basic theories of education. At last, there are lots of resources in the system, all of them are free, so students can choose learning methods freely, such as words, pictures, flash, videos, etc. All of the resources show the character of self-learning.The system has friendly and individual interaction interface. The learner can freely study the supported resources, so it can meet the need of self-learning. The system is full of values and can be applied in the practices widely.
