With the rapid social and economic development, quality education, and further reforms in education, school English teachers in Chinese rural areas have to prepare themselves with higher quality because they are one of the most important factors that affect English teaching in Chinese rural areas. It is necessary for school English teachers in Chinese rural areas to perform teacher professional development to adapt to the constant reforms in education. In this thesis, the necessary teacher quality frames and teacher quality requirements that school English teachers in Chinese rural areas must possess nowadays are listed. The author analyses the current situation of school English teachers in Chinese rural areas based on the theory of Constructivism, Reflective Teaching and Teacher Professional Development Theory. The thesis deals with key means that help school English teachers in Chinese rural areas with their teacher professional development by treating themselves as a resource. Stimulated by their inner needs, school English teachers in Chinese rural areas should seek for their teacher professional development actively. School English teachers in Chinese rural areas should keep studying to strengthen their morality, always reflect to improve their teaching practice, think over and solve the problems. The thesis holds that school English teachers in Chinese rural areas can benefit from doing teaching research, attending school-based teacher training and developing school-based curriculums by co-operative work. Meanwhile, the thesis provides a fairly detailed strategies of school English teachers in Chinese rural areas teacher professional development. The thesis also shows the present problems that exist in the course of achieving teacher professional development for school English teachers in Chinese rural areas.
