High quality education cannot be achieved without qualified teachers. Excellent preservice teacher education programs give assurance to the qualification of teachers in schools. For this reason, it's very valuable to pay attention to the design of qualified teacher education programs. In the United States of America, they give much attention to the issue of preservice teacher education program design.We can learn from others to promote ourselves. And research on the design of preservice teacher education programs in America can provide reference to China. For this is a potential field, the dissertation commits to systematic analysis on the main factors which affect the design of preservice teacher education programs, the designing process, and the big issues worth considerations in this process. By this way, we try summarizing their experience and give pieces of advice to the design of preservice teacher education programs in our country.This research first casts back several traditions of teacher education program design, including the normal school tradition, the liberal arts tradition, the tradition of professionalization through graduate preparation and research, and teacher education with collaboration between universities and schools.Second, the dissertation introduces and analyzes some key factors affecting the design of teacher education programs: structure alternatives, conceptual orientations, and teacher education accreditation.The following is the design of preservice teacher education program, including its process, the common issues in this process, such as coherence, scope and sequence of content. The writer tries to educe several basic guidelines for the program designing outcome evaluation from some excellent programs.Last but not least, the writer gives some suggestion on the design of preservice teacher education programs in China based on the experience of program design in the United States of America.
