Public goods dilemma which means that whether individuals makes their contributions to public goods, is a paradigm in the study of social dilemma. The study of social dilemma is the study of the tension between individual and collective rationality. In the past three decades, researchers from sociology, psychology and economics have paid much attention to social dilemma. In China, with increasing focus on sustainable development of public resources and public goods, it is particular necessary to make further research on public goods dilemma.Questionnaire and experiments were conducted to explore the parts played by reasoning ability and punishment in the public goods dilemma. How various punishment systems influence groups with different reasoning ability is the purpose of our study. And we hope that it would provide effective managerial strategy for public goods.The result indicated that reasoning ability plays a crucial role in public goods dilemma, and is related to the punishment setting. More details as follows,1. Under non punishment condition, reasoning ability has not significant influence to group account investment;2. Under low punishment condition, reasoning ability has negative correlation with group account investment;3. Under high punishment condition, reasoning ability has positive correlation with group account investment.From the conclusion, we can understand that suitable punishment mechanism is an effective approach for solving public goods dilemma.
