Revival And Reconstruction Of Traditional Interactive Space

The rapid development of economy in China leads to a booming urban construction all over the country, featuring less variety in both image and style concerning architectural environment and public space of the cities. Such changes, to some extent, meet the demand of the urban economic development in the given historical environment. However, the blind pursuit of"modernization"in terms of material environment in urban design and planning ignores people's spiritual demand of the human culture and fails to take the geographical characteristics into consideration, which results in the lost memory of cities, destroy of cultural inheritance, as well as the indifference among people. Therefore, it is of great significance that we conduct rational reflection and evaluation on the construction of urban public space, and pay full attention to people's emotional demand, so as to explore the theoretical concept and systematic methods in line with China's urban social development. First, public interactive space should be the focus of the urban design, where emphasis is to be laid on the humanized design and the return to the profound humanity in traditional interactive space. This is the major principle of the present study. Besides, under the background of modern cities and social significance, this paper stresses the merits of the exploration of special layout in traditional interactive space, the importance of its revival and reconstruction as well as the possibility of achieving city individuality and continuing the city's geographical culture characteristics.The present paper consists of three major parts: 1) practical significance of urban public interactive on urban space; 2) historical advantages of historical public interactive space; 3) collision and coexistence of historical public interactive space and modern society.Based on the studies on the historical development and present situation of China's traditional public interactive space, this paper tends to demonstrate the possibilities of revival and reconstruction of historical interactive space. Meanwhile, the main subjects of the study will be Chinese traditional lanes, courtyards and rivers, and the major means of design will be remedy, congruity, contrast and transformation.
