Reading comprehension is very important in learning English, so the English Syllabus considers promoting the students'reading comprehension as one of the most important goals in English teaching. Reading is a main way for people to acquire information, study or entertain. Once the student owns the ability of reading by himself, he has the ability to learn by himself, and then he has a firm foundation for his further study. Therefore improving the students'reading comprehension is an intended purpose of English teaching. Traditional reading classes are often boring,while the TBLT emphasizes that "learning by doing", in which learners engage in naturalistic learning through experiencing and exploring language.Diversified tasks not only help improve the students'integrated skills in communicating in English, but also contribute to the cultivation of their self-study ability and co-operative spirit. The research has applied the concept of Task-based Language Teaching to the English teaching of reading in a secondary vocational school. It discusses the different types of tasks that are suitable to reading class in secondary vocational schools. It gives the brief introduction of TBLT, stating the relevant theories, the definition of a task and TBLT; the features of a task; the components of a task; the design principles of a task and the types of tasks etc. and then designs the teaching procedures of reading according to the framework of Jane Willis. The author analyses the relationship between Task-based Teaching and Reading Teaching, and come up with the general thinking of designing as well as detailed improved measures of Task-based Language Teaching. The thesis shows the practice of TBLT in reading teaching in detail, including the teaching processes and the problems that the teachers should pay attention to in carrying out the TBLT in daily teaching. It also gives some models of task-based reading teaching processes.
