There exists a universal phenomenon that human beings are gradually losing our dignity, especially marginalized and subaltern groups who can not get rid of humiliation, degradation, insult, and even physical abuse when they attempt to subsist and make their way on their own. However, as a person or a group whether marginalized or not, they can not live a absolute lone life. Because communication is necessary for our existence and existence comes true in communication, intersubjective recognition is necessary in ontological meaning. Only recognizes each other people and respects one another, human beings attain themselves identity, change alienated situation, develops themselves and becomes fledged people. Therefore, in the globalization and modernity background, the politics of recognition are more and more concerned. This article attempts to trace back to the source of the theory of recognition by analyzing the theory of recognition in Hegel's the Phenomenon of Spirit and the Philosophy of Right. At the same time, we will analyze further the theory of recognition by interpreting Honneth's Struggle for Recognition. At last, we will reveal the modern meaning of recognition by comparing between Charles Taylor's the politics of recognition and Habermas-Honneth's the theory of recognition.
