Dialogue teaching is an important part in junior English teaching and senior English teaching. It plays a key role in improving the fluency of the students' oral English. In practice, dialogue has been ignored for a long time because of a variety of factors. Many English teachers tend to deal with dialogue teaching in the same way as reading and grammar. They focus on words and phrases instead of the communicative function of it. In recent years, more attention has been paid on language function, but it also brings misunderstandings about the proper language teaching methodology, which leads to the superficial effects of the class teaching. The "speaking-only" orientation is the characteristic of such teaching method and it neglects to help students build up the good foundation of language knowledge. This thesis is an exploration on dialogue teaching, trying to find out ways of innovation of English teaching in junior middle school and senior middle school. The paper consists of three parts.The first part clarifies the objective and mission of the foreign language teaching, surveying the theories and making a brief analysis on the relationship between dialogue teaching and oral English teaching.The second part discusses the existing problems in English class and points out that the college entrance examination is entirely out of joints with the dialogue teaching, the listening materials used are not authentic and occasions such as the English corner should be better used.The third part, which serves as the essential chapter, sets focus on implementation of different types of English teaching methods. On the whole, there are grammar-translation method, structural method, situational teaching method and communicative language teaching method and so on. The communicative language teaching method is being fully used in oral English teaching and in Task-based English teaching. Teaching and learning English in real life situations associates language acquisition with real life.In conclusion, dialogue teaching plays an irreplaceable role in middle school English teaching. Although there are still some conflicts between the teaching goal and actual learning reality, it is still a very important teaching module. The English teacher should not only be the educator, but also the thinker and the researcher. The problems, which have occurred in the language teaching process, should not be ignored. Exploration should be made in order to find out the solutions to them. It is the English teachers' responsibility to perfect the dialogue teaching and have its own values realized.
