Research On History Of The American Women's Higher Education

Women's higher education is a cosmopolitan problem, which wins worldwide attention at present. The American women's higher education is advanced and has a prominent status in the world. Looking back the history of American women's higher education, from it's beginning in 1830's to this day, it always face frustration. In the process, women's education is developing in enrolling way and knowledge acquired, and the scale is expanded. The dissertation attempts to deep study the concrete situation of women's higher education in different periods, which will be a reference for Chinese Women's higher education developing scientifically, healthily and regularly.The thesis includes four chapters. Chapter one introduces the background of emergence of women's higher education, and incipient development of woman college. Chapter two investigates factors in the forming phase of women's higher education, and introduces the three ways of American women enrolling higher education: woman college, coeducation college and affiliated women college. Chapter three introduces women's higher education in the developing phase, analyzing the effects, and presenting the two education models: woman college and coeducation college. Chapter four introduces the present situation of the women college and general things of present American women's higher education.The dissertation summarizes the causes of development of the American women's higher education: society process, government's support, woman's rights and the guide of education circle. In the process of developing, American women's higher education is successful generally. The experience is worthy for China and other countries.
