With the pace of the world's entering the 21st century, English has become more and more important. The traditional English teaching approach in our country cannot keep the pace with the development of the economy of our country. Nowadays, the inquiry learning has already become the hotspot of the updated curriculum innovation. The inquiry learning helps the students obtain direct experience, foster the scientific spirit and attitude , master the basic scientific method and improve the competence of solving the practical problems. The implementing being performed in primary and secondary schools highly promoted the Quality Education which emphasizes the cultivation of the students'creative spirit and practicing competence.The updated curriculum innovation puts emphasis on the students' all-round development and lifelong development. For English teaching, the teachers must switch traditional ideas of "the subject-center-only" and "the knowledge-center-only", enabling students to have awareness of touching other relevant subjects and knowledge. Our teachers should also try to arouse their interest in English and strengthen their ability to use target language in real communication. Meanwhile, through English study ,the inquiry learning can develop their ability to search and deal with information. So how to fulfill these training goals has become the most important thing in language teaching.Under such kind of background, the writer of the thesis studied a lot and try to perform the inquiry learning in Yuzhong Normal School. With the aid of philology analysis method and the empirical studies, the writer combined the inquiry learning with the traditional teaching in rural schools. The writer shows how to use the inquiry learning method to motivate the students and increase their self-esteem to develop their creative thinking. The final aim is to tell the teachers how to use the valuable and practical method to improve the students' ability of mastering the language and improve themselves so as to promote the development of the English-teaching in our country.According to the questionnaire survey, testing as well as interview survey ,we can find that the inquiry learning is helpful to arouse the students' interest and develop their creative thinking. At last, according to this study, the writer pointed out some problems existing in the practice and talked about improving ways.
