In the 21st century, the influence of the Internet has permeated human life in all aspects, particularly English teaching in China. With the ever expanding breadth and width of the involvement of the Internet in human life, English teaching in China is facing with a challenge. Employing the Internet to organize listening teaching represents a modernized educational method and an advanced form of knowledge dissemination, as it can give a full play to its advantages of vividness, graphicness, contagiousness and interaction, expand input and effectively retain memory. The introduction of the Web environment and E-learning to the listening class will lead to a qualitative change in the entire curricular arrangement, proficiency evaluation, coordinated learning, and teacher-to-student relationship.This thesis advocates a proactive, participatory and collaborative English learning methodology based on E-learning among students. The author tries to expose students to society, technology and more authentic language materials, and tap their learning potential, develop their effective learning strategies and improve their capabilities of independent learning by such learning methods as observing, experiencing and exploring. To enable students to make use of various media and information resources, broaden their learning channels and shape their personalized learning methods and styles, the author conducts some investigation and interviews to find the theoretical basis of E-learning and allows students to practise and communicate in E-Learning so as to cultivate their communicative competence.The paper focuses on the research background and reveals and explores the status quo of listening teaching in TEFL classroom in China. Based on the notions of E-learning and its theoretical bases, the author discusses English listening teaching via E-learning through a teaching case, deals with some problems in listening teaching, offers some Countermeasures, and comments on the relationship between E-learning and traditional listening teaching and posing some questions for further study. The author believes that this study is of great significance and value in TEFL.
