With the establishment of'Study-oriented Society'and the penetration of the idea of'Lifelong Learning', the rapid progress in science and technology as well as the development of social economy put forward new requirements not only on personnel qualities but on the cultural basic courses in vocational education. The new situation requires us to make their status in vocational education clearer and more definite and further give full play to their functions. Therefore, this thesis is to focus on the cultural basic courses in vocational education, and widely and deeply research on their status and functions in vocational education.The result of investigation on the current situation of the cultural basic courses in vocational schools indicates that there are many problems in the cultural basic courses in vocational education, which are basically caused by the truth that the status and functions of the cultural basic courses are not be realized clearly and completely.People's understanding of the cultural basic courses has gradually formed in the process of historical evolution. At different historical stages, influenced by different course outlooks of vocational education, the functions and status of the cultural basic courses in vocational education have been constantly changing, but the constant alterations result in people's confusing and one-sided understanding of the cultural basic courses in vocational education.After analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the three course outlooks, a new course outlook of vocational education is set up by integrating the three course outlooks and its content is explained in detail. In the field of vision of the new course outlook, the cultural basic courses in vocational education are placed in dual status and have multiple functions.In practice, if the functions and status of the cultural basic courses in vocational education are realized, be sure to enhance the construction of the cultural basic courses and ensure the implementation of them.
