Geography teachers play an important role in the geography curriculum implementation process; they are the subjects who turn"ideal curriculum"to"realistic curriculum". Geography teachers must try to meet the demand set by current basic education curriculum reform. To promote geography teachers'self-development ability, their enthusiasm and comprehension of the curriculum change must be enhanced at first. Geography teachers can achieve self-development by means of participating in curriculum decision-making and keeping creative in curriculum implementation, with their motivation to pursuit self-development and their understanding of new educational conception as the foundation. The paper is divided into five parts:As an introduction, part one presents the background, the research progress and the main study methods used in this paper. The second part makes a review of geography curriculum change in our country, and bring forward the opinion that curriculum change is a systematic change including the changes of curriculum content, curriculum objective, curriculum and teaching materials management system, curriculum type and curriculum structure, and so on.This paper attributes the reason of geography curriculum change to the development of geography science, the social development, the requirement from students'integrate development and the progress in curriculum theory. In the third part, an investigation is made on teachers'adaptability to curriculum change and their attitude to the change, and the conclusion is made that there is still a distance between the real quality status of geography teachers and the demand of the geography curriculum's continuous change. The attitude of the teachers in curriculum change is divided into three types: negative rejecting, non-activity supporting and active participating, and the ways in which to promote teachers'activity are discussed. The forth part discusses the means by which geography teachers can achieve their self-development. The conclusions are that the precondition of teachers'self-development is that their motivation must be enhanced and their educational conception must be renewed, and that geography teachers should participate in making curriculum decision and make creative innovation in curriculum complementation so as to develop themselves. In the last part of the paper, main findings are concluded, some faults are pointed out, and further problems to solve are brought forward.
