Globalization, an inevitable process, is coming. With the evolution of business cooperation and cultural communication throughout the world, each nation, communicating with other nations, presumes upon being well-equipped to deal with the highly competitively international situation. Under such circumstances, a good many qualified translators and interpreters are in imperious demand. Training translators, translation teaching, turns out to be a pressing mission. In the past decades, translation teaching has expanded at a striking speed. In view of the newly issued National English Curriculum Standards for senior high school and the changing situation, I make a point within my thesis that translation teaching in senior high school does exists, which is supposed to turn into an essential part. Two essential sections, the teaching of translation theory and practice and the appropriate approach of translation teaching, are involved in translation teaching. To students' advantage, the theory of Nida's functional equivalence, which exerts significant impact on translation studies and practice, is the right one to instruct them to be flexible in translating. To achieve semantic and cultural equivalence is the aim of students conducting translation in senior high school. On the other hand, the disadvantages of the traditional teaching approach have emerged too much, which does call for an urgent reform of teaching approach. The communicative language teaching opens up a new perspective on teaching approach, whose exploration facilitates students' motivation of study, communicative competence, etc. With the bird's eye view of the brief history of Chinese translation and translation teaching, this thesis emphasizes the necessity and significance of translation teaching in senior high school, focuses on the major problems related to translation teaching in senior high school and raises some tentative proposals to promote translation teaching in senior high school.
