The studies of English learning strategies and infiltration into English teaching processes are an important task to the contemporary English teachers. "Full-time Compulsory Ordinary Senior Middle Schools Education Curriculum Standards in English for Education" (trial version) formulated by the Ministry of Education in 2001 has made learning strategies one of the main goals of the courses of English in basic education stage. However , it is special in Inner Mongolia. The ethnic students influenced by the living environment, cultural background, religious belief, educational conditions and other characteristics inevitably have their own unique side in learning strategies. Therefore, it is of more practical significance to study their learning strategies. According to the demand of New Curriculum Standard, in the process of teaching, teaching students how to study and training students to effectively use learning strategies will not only help them to improve their learning effectiveness, but also reduce the burden of students, and largely to improve the quality of teaching. After surveying Mongolian senior students' learning strategies in Bayannur City , Inner Mongolia, the author has known that there are some problems in their use of learning strategies, that is, the lack of the knowledge in learning strategy; the weakness of creative learning capacity ; the lack of the necessary language environment. Moreover, there are some internal factors and external factors about influences on Mongolian senior students to choose and use learning strategies. As to these situations, the author believes that a set of practical English textbook should also be amended as well as focusing on specific learning strategies' guidance and training in the future teaching. Besides, it is imperative for Mongolian teachers and students to enhance the quality of integrated cultural knowledge.Apart from introduction and conclusion, there are seven chapters in this thesis. The first and second chapters outline English learning strategies and also discuss its background, the theoretical basis and research situation at home and abroad. The third and fourth chapters elaborate the survey results and the analysis of the results on the use of learning strategies by Mongolian high school students. The fifth and sixth chapters state the existing problems in using learning strategies and the influence on strategic option and use. Chapter VII of this study is on the teaching enlightenment and recommendations. The conclusion, on the basis of the summary, provides educational recommendations for the middle school English teachers who are working in ethnical areas for reference.
