As is known to all, with the fast-paced changes brought about by globalization and technological development, new changes have been posed to the English language teaching profession. Multimedia-assisted language teaching is one of such most striking changes. At the same time, the newly -published "New Senior English for China "(NSEFC) has changed a lot. It combines Warming-up, Listening and Speaking as one part, which presents a lot of real situations for the students to practice and improve their speaking and listening abilities with various topics, useful expressions.If the teachers do still offer their teachings in the traditional way, that is, textbooks are the only resources for the students to gain the information; teachers try to realize their teaching goals just by oral practice with the help of blackboard or textbooks; the teaching methods emphasis the grammar knowledge or the explanation of vocabulary, the teaching must prove to be not effective and it will lead to students' poor performance in communication.So this paper, on the base of language learning theories, such as constructivism and theories of second language acquisition, intends to introduce and interpret the modern multimedia assisted English listening and speaking teaching in senior middle schools in China. Guided by these theories, the author has conducted a two-year experiment of multimedia assisted English listening and speaking teaching in No.15 Middle School, Wuhan, Hubei Province. It proves that compared with traditional teaching, the multimedia assisted English listening and speaking teaching has obvious advantage.The result shows that multimedia-assisted language teaching, as a supplementary teaching method, helps to improve students' integrated abilities in English language, especially their listening and speaking abilities. It can also arouse the motivation, enthusiasm of the students. Through multimedia-assisted teaching method, it enriches the learning sources and enlarges the output of language learning for the students. It replaces the traditional teacher-centered teaching model with the students-centered new teaching model. The teaching effect has been greatly improved as well.This paper is made up of six parts:Part One is an introduction. It discusses the practical and theoretical significance of adopting Multimedia assisted English listening and speaking teaching in senior middle school in China.Part Two explains the definition of Multimedia and describes the theories related to Multimedia assisted English teaching.Part Three analysis the present situation of listening and speaking teaching in senior middle school in China.Part Four is an introduction of the procedures of the experiment carried out in this study.Part Five reports and discusses the result of the experiment by analysis of the data.Part Six draws a conclusion and provides some implications and reflections for Multimedia assisted English listening and speaking teaching.
