In the new century, the mankind's social development has entered a brand new knowledge-based economy age, an age for changes. The school educational center has changed to develop students abilities to learn, to cultivate their creativity and the ability to respond with technology. In order to adapt to the new requirement, our country has carried out a new round course reform. The new course reform calls for an initiative study attitude and initiates students to participate, to take pleasure to investigate actively, develops students'ability to do research and deal with information , achieves new knowledge, solves problems and cooperates with others as well as develops a lifelong learning conscience. However, growing up in old patterns, students are used to receiving knowledge passively. Students have little chance to reflect on the problems. Due to the lack of self-conscience, students lose the desire to learn. A great many of them have no clear study aim and to them, they feel they are forced to study. The reasons for the above-mentioned problems are varied and are closely related to students'mental pattern."Mental pattern"has loog been considered as the habit to look at people and things. It has been rooted in students'hearts, influencing the way to understand the world and the assumptions and prejudices for taking actions. Usually, we can't feel the existence of it. When our mental pattern can't adapt to the changes of the surrounding environment and becomes the mental obstacle to study process and influences students'attitude towards learning directly. This research takes up the popular way in the field of social scientific research——archery target research technique. This technique is under natural scenario, that is, in the real world as well as under the daily routine. The subjects'life stories are being explanatory understood. Throughout the whole process, the researchers participate in the natural scenario and share feelings with the subjects and face difficulties and challenges with them so that the subjects can be changed in a better direction gradually.During September 2006 and December 2007, I carried out the case study to improve students'mental pattern. By tracking student L in my class and questionaire to 618 students. The aim is to understand the present study condition, help students to find out the mental pattern, discover concealed mental problems, improve the negative intelligence mode and study actively. The result of the research shows that there exist different mental obstacles in learning process; there is a lack of an explicit study target; the study habit and method are not developed well; teachers have little communication with students; right learning attitudes haven't been formed( they are eager to succeed but don't want to work hard and the cases of cheating in tests are increasing etc.); self-confidence is not strong enough; grades are over concerned while the learning process has been overlooked; it's others who are to blame when problems occur. These mental obstacles influence students'initiatives seriously. With time passing by,they are scared of study. Whether one can succeed in his study or not depends not only in hard-warking and abilities but also in close relation with mental mode. During the teaching process, through the trainning such as introspection and inquiring, students can be helped to find out their mental obstacles and learn to look at problems from different angles so as to improve original thinking mode gradually, stir up their inside potential and motivation to study. To teachers themselves, it's necessary to change their teaching mode and organize teaching aiming to digging out students potential and should be based on students'different characters. At the same time, teachers should not act out as dictators but as equal as students. They are promotors , organizers ,directors ,trying hard to understand students ,analyze them, help them develop and build a new equal relationship. The way to evaluate students should be changed in order to provide students more freedom to develop different personalities. After one-year communication with L, L has learned to find out his own problems. He is willing to talk with his teachers and classmates and express his viewpoints with accuracy. He does not only concern about his test results but find out his existent shortages through the exams. He has studied more actively and his self-confidence is strengthened little by little. So are his test results.
