Reading teaching is very important in senior English teaching. The purpose of reading teaching is not just to impart knowledge, but also to comprehend and apply it. In other words, students read not only to learn English, but also to develop their intelligence. Therefore, effective reading is a process of using comprehensive language knowledge, a process of personality training filled with active thinking activities, and also a kind of creative practice. The New Standard of the English Curriculum says that students should analyze and solve problems by using logical means, such as inference and deduction. It also points out that the task of training students' logical abilities should be strengthened in senior English teaching, especially in the reading teaching. However, it is a common flaw in senior English teaching that students feel puzzled when it comes to solving logical referential problems. Mathematics, as the quintessence of human wisdom, is the best carrier to train rational and scientific thinking abilities. Therefore, this thesis suggests the teaching strategy of applying mathematical thinking to senior English reading teaching, aimed at providing a new reading teaching way to train students' logical inferential ability, to widen their vision, to initiate their learning enthusiasm, so as to improve English reading and promote the development of interdisciplinary teaching.There is a number of theories to support the reading teaching strategy discussed in this thesis, for example, Multi-intelligent Theory, Interdisciplinary Teaching, Sustainable Development and Content-Based Instruction. Among them, Gardener's multi-intelligent theory guides us to change our teaching strategies and teaching behaviors by providing us with a sound base. Meanwhile, Content-Based Instruction shows that the soul of language, which is the carrier of culture, lies in content, without which language is merely a husk. Therefore, teachers should fully explore the concept of teaching value in English reading teaching, trying hard to develop students' language abilities and other qualities.As the reading teaching strategy is rather novel and abstract, the thesis deals with it from three aspects, that is, what, why and how, analyzes the reading teaching strategy step by step. On one hand, the thesis expounds the connotation and significance of applying mathematical thinking to senior English reading teaching. On the other hand, from the angles of theory and practice, the thesis, taking teaching cases as main argument methods, introduces the set theory, one-to-one correspondence, classified discussion, symbolic notation and transformation to English reading teaching, and illustrates concrete steps, concrete methods and concrete contents of how to apply mathematical thinking, hoping to guide teachers to comprehend and use this teaching strategy flexibly. It is also hoped that teachers, by raising their own theoretic knowledge and teaching level, can achieve the purpose of teaching English reading efficiently and developing students' logical thinking ability as well.
