The conception of self-concept has long aroused the great interest to the psychologists since it was proposed by James. The relations between Academic self-concept and school performance is the psychological exploration in the educational field.In the Study I, 619 middle school students on grade six were sampled to explore the model of the relations between students'Academic self-concept and school performance.Considering IQ not being introduced in the former relative studies, and existing the significant relations between IQ and school performance, IQ would be included as a latent variable in this study to verify the relations between IQ and school performance.It was testified that students'verbal and math self-concepts have significant effects on their respective post-test achievement. reciprocal effects model was validated for the math , that was, there exited interactional significant effects between pretest math self-concepts and math performance.As for the Chinese, the self enhancement model was validated, only pretest verbal self-concepts significantly affected on the Chinese performance, contrariwise, no effects appeared.In all, Study I verified pretest Academic self-concept was a positive predictor of performance from the theory perspective. The results is the same as the former studies', which demonstrated that it was possible to improve students'performance by developing their Academic self-concept.From the perspective of the positive psychology, Study II was explored the effect that imagery training had on the Academic self-concept in the experimental method In the imagery training, students are guided into a more positive state (imagery—vision—creation) by means of inspiring their positive mental experience.It leads students to exert their great study potential, experience huge interest in the learning, become aware of the progress of study, and create the condition of winning the Peak Experiences, resulting in students to own more positive Academic self-concept.There were 4 groups in the study II, the group of verbal imagery,the group of verbal imagery,inspirit group and control group. After 4 month imagery training for Chinese subject, verbal self-concept of the group of verbal imagery was significantly improved, which means imagery training has positive effect on relevant performance, so, a new way was opened for students to improve their performance.
